Shopping Center AINOA

AINOA shopping centre in Tapiola, Espoo was completed in 2020. The development was built using low-emission materials and also included high-quality apartments. Thanks to its central location and excellent transport connections, AINOA is easy to reach and serves both local residents and visitors from elsewhere in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Only low-emission materials were used in the shopping centre, and AINOA was awarded LEED Platinum, the highest level of LEED certification.

The redevelopment of Tapiola town centre and the AINOA development, including the Kirjokansi residential buildings, formed an extensive and diverse urban development project that made comprehensive use of SRV’s project management expertise.

AINOA is located at a public transport hub with excellent connections, making it an ideal location for both commercial services and homes that support people’s everyday lives,” says Kalle Mauriala, Senior Vice President at SRV.

With the extensions completed in 2017 and 2019, AINOA’s total retail space increased significantly from approximately 10,000 square metres to 50,000 square metres, with a total of 100 shops and services.

At its busiest, around 450 people worked on the construction of AINOA’s final extension. The project began with the demolition of the old Stockmann department store after the previous extension had been completed. At the same time, the Tapiola bus terminal, which opened in 2019, was also under construction. The terminal provides direct access to the metro and the shopping centre.

In 2017, the first almost 130 Kirjokansi apartments built above the shopping centre were completed. The extensive regeneration and urban development of Tapiola town centre continued until 2020 with the construction of the final three Kirjokansi apartment buildings.
