The new Okmetic factory building in Vantaa was delivered according to the customer’s specific requirements. Okmetic is the world’s seventh-largest silicon wafer manufacturer and the global market leader in supplying high-performance silicon wafers.
Modern facilities for high-tech production
The facilities of Okmetic’s new factory were designed to meet the requirements of the modern semiconductor industry, incorporating the latest technologies. The silicon wafers produced at the factory are used in the manufacture of electronic components. This high-technology production environment represents a demanding construction project in which SRV applied its expertise from delivering other technically complex facilities.
The new building has a total gross floor area of 42,500 square metres. In terms of industrial construction in the Helsinki metropolitan area, the project is exceptionally large. The piling works were carried out by SRV Infra.
Driven by customer needs
The construction project was carried out with the customer’s requirements at the forefront. In addition to SRV’s own subcontracting packages, the project management contract included the coordination of subordinated subcontracts and separate procurements commissioned directly by Okmetic.
For the project organisation, it was essential to have a thorough understanding of the client’s industrial processes and the specific requirements of the new facility. Silicon wafer production continued in the adjacent building throughout the construction period. The manufacturing process imposed strict requirements for vibration control – vibrations from either the surrounding environment or within the facility itself could not be allowed to disturb the production equipment.
