SRV built a 13,000 m² GFA multipurpose hall at the Rauma shipyard to meet the shipbuilding needs of Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC). The energy-efficient hall provides suitable conditions for the construction of government vessels and passenger car ferries.
We built a multipurpose hall for Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) at the Rauma shipyard. The project was commissioned by a real estate company owned by the City of Rauma and Rauma Marine Constructions.
The 13,000 m² GFA hall is one of the largest industrial buildings in Rauma. Construction began in November 2021, and the new multipurpose hall, including office facilities, was completed at the end of 2022.
An important project for the maritime and defence industries
RMC is a world-leading specialist in the construction and maintenance of passenger car ferries, icebreakers and naval vessels. The new hall is used to build government vessels and passenger car ferries.
The multipurpose hall plays a key role in Finland’s naval defence by providing facilities for the construction of four multipurpose corvettes under the Squadron 2020 project.
“The Squadron 2020 project is extremely important for RMC, the maritime industry in Rauma and Finland as a whole. It is great that we can build these advanced vessels in a purpose-built multipurpose hall that provides excellent working conditions,” says Mika Laurilehto, Deputy CEO of Rauma Marine Constructions.

Close cooperation ensured a successful outcome
In addition to overall cost-effectiveness, the construction project took into account energy efficiency, future needs and the requirements of the end user. For example, the energy-efficient hall is designed so that only areas where work is being carried out are heated. Indoor air quality was also taken into consideration.
The hall’s architectural design was carried out by Arkkitehti Tero Leino, structural design by Sweco Rakennetekniikka and building services design by Planneri Group and LST-Engineering Oy.
“Cooperation with the client has gone well, and the skilled personnel on site have ensured the smooth progress of the project and the implementation of the specialised solutions required,” says Eerik Leivo, Project Manager at SRV.
Close cooperation throughout the construction project paid off. The Rauma shipyard now has even better facilities for building high-quality vessels.
