Supercell’s wood-structured office building in Wood City, Jätkäsaari, was created in close collaboration with the client. SRV delivered the LEED Platinum-certified building, transforming Supercell’s ambitious vision of the world’s best workplace into a completed working environment.
Completed in 2020, Supercell’s wood-structured office building and car park form part of the Wood City wooden quarter in Jätkäsaari. The basement and first floor of the office building, as well as the lift shafts, are constructed in concrete, while the office floors 2–8 are made of wood. Upon completion, the Supercell office was Finland’s largest wood-structured office building in terms of the volume of wood used.
Supercell’s high standards, combined with SRV’s strong expertise in business premises construction, made the project a pioneering example in its field. As only the best was good enough for the client, the objectives were set high.
“The intention was to create the world's best office space for our employees, where they can make the world's best games,” says Janne Saarinen, Facility Manager at Supercell.
Working together
Supercell’s corporate culture encourages self-directed teams and minimal hierarchy. The same mindset was also applied on the construction site. Open communication and co-creation were the cornerstones of the work.
“We were fascinated by the opportunity to take part in shaping the future of office building construction,” says Saarinen.
Supercell wanted to be actively involved in the project, even on a daily basis. This approach was a perfect fit for SRV: the more a client tells us about their needs, the better we can deliver solutions tailored specifically to them. Open dialogue and a proactive attitude proved to be key to the project’s success.
“With SRV, we immediately found a great sense of team spirit. Their team showed openness, a can-do attitude and exactly the mindset we were looking for. Our collaboration was particularly successful. Getting everyone working together towards the same goal right from the start played a major part in the success of the project,” says Saarinen.

An office that stores carbon
At Supercell’s office, lifecycle wisdom is particularly evident in the use of wood as a building material. The structural frame was made from Finnish LVL laminated veneer lumber supplied by Stora Enso’s factory in Varkaus. The amount of wood used in the building stores carbon dioxide equivalent to the annual emissions of 600 passenger cars.
Wood is the only fully renewable and recyclable construction material that stores carbon and thereby helps to mitigate climate change. The carbon footprint of a wood-structured building is significantly smaller than that of a comparable concrete structure.
Lifecycle wisdom is also reflected in the building’s energy solutions. The office has been designed to be highly energy-efficient and uses renewable energy generated by solar panels installed on the roof. Nearly one-third of the parking spaces in the car park are equipped with electric vehicle charging points.
The LEED Platinum certification awarded to the Supercell office is a testament to the successful implementation of sustainable solutions.

Flexible spaces for the best game developers
Supercell’s brand exudes quality, so its office also had to offer first-class quality and a high degree of flexibility. Flexibility was important because the composition of Supercell’s teams changes depending on the stage of game development. Thanks to the modular office layout, the size of the team spaces can be easily adjusted as needed.
In January 2021, around 200 Supercell employees moved into their new premises. Based on the feedback received, they have been very satisfied with their new office.
The ambitious goals of the construction project were achieved as intended: we built the world’s best workplace for the world’s best game developers.

With SRV, we immediately found a great sense of team spirit. Their staff radiated openness, a can-do attitude and exactly the mindset we were looking for. Our collaboration was particularly successful. From the very beginning, when everyone started pulling together, we saw how fruitful that was for the overall success of the project.
