In the Käkikello residential block in Kalasatama, lifecycle-wise solutions support smooth everyday living and sustainable urban development. Delivered by SRV, the development will serve city residents far into the future.
SRV built the Käkikello residential block for the City of Helsinki Housing Production Department. Completed in 2025, the development includes 41 Hitas owner-occupied apartments, 84 rental apartments for Helsinki City Housing, a parking facility and business premises. One of the block’s key buildings is the residential apartment building Helsingin Aavatar, one of the latest Hitas projects by the City of Helsinki Housing Production Department.
The Käkikello residential block is located in maritime Nihti in Helsinki’s Kalasatama district. Close to the city centre, the residential area offers modern urban living at its best.
Energy-efficient urban living
The Käkikello residential block was designed with lifecycle-wise thinking. This means that the homes take into account residents’ wellbeing, the interests of the environment and financial wellbeing.
“The Housing Production Department’s latest projects are delivered with energy-wise solutions, including a geothermal heating system and solar panels,” says Merja Rukko, Head of New Production at the City of Helsinki Housing Production Department.
At the same time, the carefully designed spatial solutions in the Käkikello residential block meet the needs of modern living and support a smooth daily life.

The Käkikello residential block is an example of a project where close collaboration can be seen in the completed development. The City of Helsinki Housing Production Department is pleased with the outcome.
“Several rental, right-of-occupancy and owner-occupied housing projects by the Housing Production Department are being built in the Kalasatama area. The Käkikello residential block turned out to be a highly successful housing project. It has been both designed and built exceptionally well and in good collaboration. We can all be proud of it,” says Rukko.
