Majakka marked the beginning of a new era in Finnish high-rise construction. SRV built Finland's tallest residential building in Kalasatama, as part of the REDI complex, offering homes high above the surrounding services and transport connections, with views out to sea.
SRV has played a key role in transforming Kalasatama from a former harbour and industrial area into a popular urban neighbourhood. The Kalasatama towers are prominent landmarks in the area. The first of these, Majakka, stands 132 metres tall, has 35 storeys and is Finland's tallest residential building.
Majakka is part of a larger development comprising several towers. The completed towers include Loisto, Visio, Lumo One and the Horisontti office tower. The first residents moved into Majakka in November 2019.
A pioneering high-rise construction project
Majakka is a prestigious building designed for a long service life. As a prominent landmark, it shapes the cityscape and adds to the appeal of the Kalasatama area.
The construction of Majakka was a pioneering project. When construction began, the City of Helsinki's building regulations did not yet address high-rise construction, and dedicated building guidelines were developed by the city during the project.
The building was designed by the architectural firm Helin & Co, which also served as the principal designer of the entire REDI complex. Majakka is located at the heart of REDI's services and at a public transport hub with improving connections.
Living high above the city
Majakka offers apartments of various sizes, ranging from 36 m² one-bedroom apartments to a 142.5 m² luxury apartment. Instead of a balcony, each apartment features a glazed, heated winter garden that can be used as a terrace or dining area. Large windows and high ceilings bring natural light into the apartments and offer far-reaching views.
The standard of fittings and finishes varies between residential floors. The apartments are located on floors 6–35, with the most luxurious Sky-level apartments occupying the top two floors.
A 200 m² terrace
Majakka offers a range of services and shared facilities designed to make everyday life easier for residents. The 33rd floor features a club floor for residents, with event facilities, saunas and terraces covering 200 m². The building also has a gym, and residents have access to a dedicated online portal for accessing the various services.
A lobby service is available to residents and visitors. Residents also have access to Bryga, a large public rooftop park extending across the roof of the shopping centre at fifth-floor level.
