Special featureSRV is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the property for 20 years

Siuntion sydän brings together municipal services under one roof from morning to evening. The lifecycle project delivered by SRV is the largest single investment in the history of the Municipality of Siuntio, and we are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the property for 20 years.

The education and wellness campus built by SRV provides safe, healthy and flexible facilities for a range of municipal services in Siuntio. The two-storey building, with a gross floor area of approximately 8,100 m², includes facilities for education, wellbeing, leisure and culture.

As a lifecycle project, SRV is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the property for 20 years. The building was designed to ensure that the facilities are easy to maintain, provide healthy indoor conditions and remain energy-efficient throughout the long service period.

A building that adapts to the needs of local residents

Siuntion sydän has been designed for a wide range of uses. The building serves local residents from morning to evening and also at weekends, with a variety of services, leisure activities and cultural activities available in the facilities.

Flexibility was an important starting point for the project. The facilities can be used in different ways at different times, and parts of the building can be opened for evening use without giving users access to all areas. This improves security and makes maintenance easier.

The building services also support the flexible use of the facilities. For example, in the evenings, ventilation can be directed only to the areas that are in use. This avoids wasting energy on maintaining conditions in empty spaces.

Designed and built to last

The Siuntion sydän lifecycle project placed particular emphasis on durable structures, ease of maintenance and healthy indoor conditions. SRV’s 20-year service agreement also includes monitoring the building’s energy consumption and conditions, helping to maintain healthy indoor conditions and keep emissions low throughout the building’s lifecycle.

The drying of the concrete, for example, was carefully monitored. Moisture sensors were installed in walls and floors to monitor moisture levels in the concrete before the structures were covered. After completion, the sensors continue to monitor moisture levels in the structures.

Instead of a ground-bearing slab, a crawl space was built beneath the floor. This solution provides protection against radon and makes it easier to manage the condition of the structures. Ventilation of the crawl space began during construction so that the drying process could start immediately.

Energy from the ground and the sun

The heating and cooling energy for the campus, which has an A energy rating, is provided by geothermal energy. In addition, approximately 25% of the building’s electricity is generated by solar panels. These figures are also consistent with SRV's 2022 project announcement.

Particular attention was paid during the design phase to ensuring that the building services use energy efficiently in different situations. The properties of the windows also contribute to energy efficiency. While the glazing allows natural light into the building, it also provides thermal insulation, reducing the need for both heating and cooling.

Lifecycle wisdom can also be seen in the building’s surroundings. The steep slope next to the campus directs rainwater away from the building’s grounds, reducing moisture loads on the grounds and structures. As part of the landscaping works, a green area was planted to retain moisture and increase biodiversity in the area.
