SRV carried out the refurbishment and modernisation of the Siltasaari 10 complex in Hakaniemi, Helsinki. The project brought together three historic properties to create a 36,075 gross m² complex of service and office facilities.
The project began with a three-month development phase, and the refurbished premises were completed in 2021.
At the heart of the complex was the former Elanto department store, completed in 1913, together with two neighbouring properties. The building at Siltasaarenkatu 8–10 is protected in terms of its façade and the street-facing section of the roof, and the major refurbishment was carried out with respect for the building’s history and original character. Siltasaarenkatu 6, completed in 1979, was demolished from the third floor upwards, while Paasivuorenkatu 4–6, completed in 1980, underwent major refurbishment.
The project brought the historic buildings into a modern service and working environment. Sustainability was reflected in solutions relating to indoor air quality, water consumption and the use of low-carbon materials.
