SRV launches construction of Hyvinkää Arena – this new multipurpose venue can host everything from recreational activities to international events and experiences

SRV and the City of Hyvinkää have signed an agreement for the implementation phase of Hyvinkää Arena, a new multipurpose arena in Hangonsilta. The arena will boast a sports hall with grandstands, along with ancillary facilities such as a gym and areas for running and other sports and exercise. The complex will also include facilities for Laurea University of Applied Sciences and a student and event restaurant.

The project is being implemented as a collaborative project management contract. The total cost estimate is EUR 45.6 million, of which SRV’s share accounts for EUR 38 million. The project is being implemented as a joint venture between the City of Hyvinkää and Laurea University of Applied Sciences.

Now that the implementation phase agreement has been signed, the project will be entered into SRV’s order backlog for June. Construction work will commence in June, and the new multipurpose arena is currently scheduled for completion in early 2027.

Development phase exceeds the client's expectations for the project

The project kicked off with a development phase in October 2024. During the development phase, the final implementation solutions were sought in collaboration with all of the parties involved, and both the project’s schedule and total cost were refined.

“As expected, the two-phase collaborative project management model that we chose was an excellent fit for a project of this type with multiple user groups and varying space requirements. Cooperation during the development phase has been smooth and seamless for all involved,” says Kimmo Hyry, Unit Director, Business Premises, Helsinki Metropolitan Area.

During the development phase, plenty of cost savings were also found in areas that will not have a significant impact on the practical operation of the finished building.

“When developing the project, we leveraged the top expertise of several partners and a broad range of implementation alternatives were explored for the structures. The objectives set by the client for the development phase were exceeded,” says Hyry.

“Hyvinkää Arena is an investment in the future – it will bring sports, events and education together in a new way. We are proud to be collaborating with SRV and Laurea to build a multipurpose facility that will serve both citizens and the vitality of the region long into the future. The close and constructive cooperation that we achieved during the development phase has created a strong foundation for the project’s successful implementation, and we are now moving into the implementation phase with confidence,” says Antti Nikkanen, Real Estate Director of the City of Hyvinkää.

Hyvinkää Arena to become a new centre for sports, events and education in Southern Finland

Hyvinkää Arena will be a multipurpose venue designed for sports and events. The project’s preliminary scope is approximately 13,000 square metres (gross), of which the multipurpose arena will account for about 9,800 and the higher education premises for about 3,200.

The building’s primary purpose is to serve as a venue for sports, exercise and events, which includes enabling school sports, clubs and competitive sport. The multipurpose arena will also be used as a sports hall for the city’s other schools and nurseries.

Hyvinkää Arena will also contain new facilities for Laurea University of Applied Sciences' Hyvinkää campus. The arena’s restaurant has been designed to serve the needs of both the university and those visiting the arena for sports and events.

“Laurea's high-quality and well-equipped facilities have been designed to be multipurpose. They can also be used outside university activities, for example, during a variety of corporate events and conferences or as VIP and backstage areas for large-scale events,” says Elina Flemming, Director, Laurea University of Applied Sciences.
