Construction of Rovaniemi’s new main police station begins

SRV and Senate Properties have signed an implementation agreement for the construction of the new main police station in Rovaniemi. The total cost estimate of the project is around EUR 61 million, of which the value of SRV’s contract is around EUR 48 million. The project will be entered into SRV’s order backlog in March 2026. SRV will start up the construction of the main police station under a spearhead alliance project model with earthworks in spring 2026. The building will be completed in autumn 2028. The new police station will be opened at the beginning of 2029. The station will be built in a new industrial area in Rovaniemi on Verstaantie and it will have a gross floor area of 12,800 square metres.

“This project bolsters SRV’s leading position in cooperative and other forms of contracting, in which the company is particularly strong in public sector projects. We would like to thank Senate Properties for teaming up with us to launch this regionally significant project. We’ll be able to harness the expertise we’ve gained in earlier projects. We’ve previously implemented projects such as the Oulu Main Police Station and Prison, and the Vantaa Main Police Station and Police Prison," says Tero Karislahti, SVP, Regional Units at SRV.

“Rovaniemi’s new main police station is a major investment in the safety of Lapland as a whole, and it will serve both police personnel and residents of the area well into the future. Its design is based on the police station concept, guaranteeing that the police will have effective, high-quality facilities that meet the requirements of the changing operating environment,” says Lauri Peltonen, Regional Director, Northern Finland at Senate Properties.

Modern facilities for around 250 people

The project seeks to build healthy and secure premises to support the operations of the staff of the Lapland Police Department and the Lapland unit of the National Bureau of Investigation. About 250 people will work in the new building. The design of the police station is steered by the national police station concept, which specifies the functionalities of the premises. The facilities will provide better support to patrols departing on and returning from their shifts, as well as to operations during shifts. Functions will be located in the police station in such a way as to ensure that personnel can move around effectively and save time when collecting their equipment. Attention has also been paid to the functionality, comfort and data security of customer areas. The project aims to reduce the carbon footprint by about 25 per cent from the ordinary level.

Senate Properties selected SRV as its partner to implement the new Rovaniemi main police station in October 2025. The development phase of the project was kicked off in November.
