Osten Tor - block of flats in Tallinn
Construction works on the site of the housing development project Osten Tor started in Tallinn in July 2004, and the first residents moved into the house in February 2006.The project was launched in a very thin market situation, when the residential boom in Estonia had not started yet. However all the flats in the Osten Tor had been sold during early construction stage. The project developers were SRV International, SRV Kinnisvara and SRV Westerlund. Financing of the project was arranged from Nordea Bank.
15-storey building is situated in Tondi district, near the city centre of Tallinn, at Pärnu mnt 110. The house contains 158 apartments, about 2,000 m² of commercial space and a garage for 72 cars. At the time, Osten Tor was the biggest new housing project in Tallinn since Estonias independence and also the biggest apartment building in Estonia. With regard to the volume and the technical complexity of the project it was a bold decision of SRV.
As Osten Tor is located next to the citys main road, it presented a logistical challenge for its builders. The building filled every square metre of the site and there was no room for spread. The SRV's strong experience and know-how in the project management was the key in solving problems and winning challenges. As a result, Osten Tor is now one of the new landmarks of Tallinn. The view from the Osten Tor, which is 50 metres tall at its highest point, looks out over the city to the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ülemiste.
